Erdogan calls Istanbul negotiations between Russia and Ukraine 'a historic event'

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan assessed the latest round of negotiations between representatives of Russia and Ukraine, which took place a few days ago in Istanbul, as a historic event.

Report with reference to TRT Haber states that Erdogan said this in his congratulatory message on the occasion of the Eid al-Adha.

The Turkish leader emphasized that official Ankara will continue efforts to ensure a fair peace between the parties.

He also commented on the situation in Syria: "We highly appreciate the struggle of the new administration in our neighboring Syria for national unity, territorial integrity and sustainable development of the country. We believe that with the support of all brotherly countries in the region, Syria will achieve lasting peace and return to its former days."
