Earthquake of magnitude 6.2 hits Kuril Islands

An earthquake measuring 6.2 was registered on August 25 off the coast of the northern Kuril Islands, said the head of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk seismic station, Yelena Semenova, Report informs referring to Russian media.
"An earthquake measuring 6.2 occurred in the Pacific Ocean at 17:48 on August 25. The epicenter was located 320 kilometers southeast of the city of Severo-Kurilsk on Paramushir Island, the epicenter was at a depth of 22 kilometers," she said.
The tremor could have been felt in Severo-Kurilsk with a magnitude of 3. No tsunami alert was issued.
