Court extends arrest of Yerevan’s ex-mayor accused of plotting assassination attempt on Pashinyan

The ex-deputy chairman of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union, former Yerevan mayor Albert Bazeyan, who is accused of preparing an assassination attempt on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, will remain under arrest until January 23, his lawyer Georgy Melikyan said, Report informs referring to Armenian media.

The judge rejected the request of Bazeyan's lawyer to change the preventive measure against him.

Earlier, the National Security Service of Armenia reported that on September 23, Bazeyan and seven other members of the military-patriotic organization “Crusaders” were detained in connection with an attempt to seize power.

Bazeyan was placed in custody on September 26 on charges of attempting a coup. The former deputy chairman of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union doesn’t admit guilt and considers himself a political prisoner.
