It was expected that Azerbaijan and Türkiye weren’t invited to the Summit for Democracy, head of the Ankara Political Center, ambassador, ex-representative of the brotherly country in NATO Fatih Ceylan told the Turkish bureau of Report.
"I believe that it is unfair not to invite Türkiye and Azerbaijan to this event, considering them 'anti-democratic' countries," he said.
He noted that the summit is held on a private initiative and therefore is not included in the list of regular meetings of NATO or the UN: “Holding this event was a campaign promise of US President Joe Biden. The first such summit took place on December 9-10, 2021. The next event is scheduled on March 29-30 of this year. I think it is unfair not to invite Türkiye and Azerbaijan to this event, considering them 'anti-democratic' countries, but this does not matter to us. We should strive to further develop democracy within our countries.”
According to the head of the center, the inclusion of Hungary in the same list and not being invited to this summit is due to the good relations of this country with the Turkic world: “Of course, they are worried about the growth of the Turkic world. We must expand and strengthen our activities in this direction. By developing the Turkic world we can show them true democracy.”
