Center chief: Georgia facing threat of measles epidemic

Baku. 24 January. REPORT.AZ/ "Georgia is facing the threat of measles epidemic and the number of measles-infected patients keeps on growing," Research Advisor at the National Center of Control of Disease and Public Health Paata Imnadze said.

According to Report, Paata said 580 people have been infected with measles since the beginning of the year: "Most of them are in Tbilisi, Sameqrelo, Imereti and Kakheti."

Imnadze noted that the anti-measles vaccination campaign was launched and 12,000 citizens were vaccinated in the past three days.

Notably, the high infection rate is recorded among residents aged between 20 and 40 in Georgia. The country made the vaccination mandatory for those from the 0-19 age group.
