Wildfires in France severely deteriorate air quality

Forest fires in southwestern France have significantly worsened air quality, according to Le Figaro, Report informs.

In the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, pollution indicators have exceeded critical thresholds. The newspaper reported that in four departments – Gironde, Landes, Dordogne, and Lot-et-Garonne – limits for fine particulate matter have been raised.

The deterioration is attributed to the uncontrollable spread of natural fires and meteorological conditions that intensify smoke concentration. Local residents have complained of suffocating air and eye irritation caused by the smoke.

Earlier reports noted that the ongoing wildfires in France are considered the largest disaster in the past half-century.
