WHO reports fastest growing HIV epidemic in Europe

The world's fastest growing HIV epidemic is in the European Region of the World Health Organization (WHO), WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge said in a statement on World AIDS Day.

50% of people in the European Region are diagnosed late, he said, adding that this trend has not changed for 10 years.

Some countries in the region have unacceptably high mortality rates, while in others the HIV transmission has been almost completely stopped, says Kluge.
