Washington mayor declares May 28 “Azerbaijan Independence Day”

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has signed a document declaring May 28 “Azerbaijan Independence Day”, Report informs.
Azerbaijan was the first Muslim nation in the world to grant women the right to vote.
The document also notes that Azerbaijan declared its independence on May 28, 1918.
At the same time, it is emphasized that this year marks the 31 years since the restoration of Azerbaijan’s independence and 31 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the US and Azerbaijan.
The declaration states that more than 700,000 members of the Azerbaijani community share their rich culture and heritage with District of Columbia residents.
