US stays in contact with rebel Nigerien authorities on terminated military agreement

The US Administration stays in contact with the Nigerien rebels from the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) regarding the terminated agreement with Washington, which allowed US military and civilian Pentagon personnel to stay in the African country, the US Department of Defense told TASS, Report informs.

According to the Pentagon, Washington is aware of the CNSP’s announcement made on the social media, which followed the discussion at the highest level in Niamey regarding the CNSP’s course. The Department of Defense said that the US Administration stays in contact with the Council and will provide further information when necessary.

Previously, the Nigerien rebels terminated the military agreement with the US. This decision was made after the visit of US officials to Niger earlier this week. There is an operational US drone base in the northern part of the country. By the end of 2023, there were about 1,100 US troops in Niger.
