"International peacekeepers, including US troops, will leave Tiran Island in the Red Sea where they've been for over 40 years," US President Joe Biden said, Report informs, citing the White House Office of the Press Secretary.
US military units have been on the island since 1981.
The countries agreed to maintain security measures and freedom of navigation from all sides, including Israel. In 2017, Egypt agreed to transfer two islands in the Strait of Tiran to Saudi Arabia, but this also required the consent of Israel. Riyadh reportedly wanted to develop these islands for tourism.
