US allows unfreezing of Afghanistan's funds

The United States is ready to help stabilize the Afghan economy, and the work on unfreezing state accounts is underway with the country's government, US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West said at the international conference "Afghanistan: security and economic development" in Tashkent, Report informs via Interfax.

"The US remains the largest donor of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, having provided $1 billion since August 2021. Washington is also working with the Central Bank and the Afghan government to unfreeze public funds," West said.

The diplomat assured of Washington's commitment to stabilizing the Afghan economy. According to him, thanks to the international community's actions, it was possible to prevent the gravest humanitarian crisis in the country and survive the winter.

The international conference on Afghanistan in Tashkent is attended by delegations from more than 20 countries, including the Taliban delegation headed by Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki.
