UN extends mandate of its mission in Afghanistan

The UN Security Council has extended the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) for another year, Report informs.
The draft resolution put to vote during the meeting on Afghanistan was adopted unanimously.
The resolution stated that the mandate of UNAMA has been extended until March 17, 2026, without any changes to its authorities.
UNAMA was established in 2002 by UN Security Council Resolution 1401 and its term has been extended annually. UNAMA, with its headquarters in Kabul, has approximately 1,200 staff members.
