The Horn of Africa is facing the worst drought in decades, the UN says, Report informs via Anadolu Agency.
About 15 million people - 3 million in Kenya, 5 million in Somalia and 7 million in Ethiopia - are suffering from severe drought.
The situation is expected to deteriorate significantly by mid-2022, and an effective humanitarian program is urgently needed to prevent this catastrophe.
Other negative factors such as conflicts, bad weather, climate change, desert locusts and the adverse socio-economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic worsen the crisis.
Although the Horn of Africa has experienced a climate crisis for decades, the effects of the current drought have been particularly severe. There is a risk of famine and malnutrition as food security deteriorates rapidly.
