The search is continuing for a man who was swept into the Taiwan Strait while fishing in Chiayi during Typhoon Podul, while his friend will be fined for fishing in a restricted area, Report informs via Taiwan News.
Lin, 28, and Li entered the Bazhang River Delta in Budai Wednesday even though the authorities had closed it off due to the danger posed by the typhoon, per CNA. While they were fishing, a wave swept Lin into the sea.
With the weather improving, the Coast Guard Administration sent drones and two ships to look for Lin Thursday, but without positive results. A helicopter from the National Air Service Corps also joined in the search.
Even though Li was not injured in the incident, he could face a fine ranging from NT$50,000 (US$1,660) to NT$250,000 for entering an off-limits area, the Coast Guard said. The administration added it had a policy of zero tolerance for such incidents.
Typhoon Podul moved from east to west across south Taiwan within three hours on Wednesday afternoon. Lin was the only person reported missing during the storm, with more than 100 injured.
