US President Donald Trump has ordered representatives of his administration to halt the negotiation process with Iran, a US official familiar with the matter told CNN, according to Report.
Washington has informed its political partners of the change in course. The strategy of "crushing Iran as quickly as possible" has been replaced by an approach of gradually "strangling" the Islamic Republic.
While Trump had repeatedly said that negotiations were progressing successfully and that a new agreement would soon be reached, the president now says there is a complete lack of diplomatic activity on the Iranian track, CNN notes.
According to sources, cited by CNN, Trump instructed his negotiating team, which includes his son-in-law Jared Kushner, Vice President JD Vance, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, to halt all engagement with Tehran. Although the decision was made after "positive talks" with the Iranian side, CNN sources said the US president was disappointed by Tehran's refusal to meet his demands.
