President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has proposed developing a CIS Development Strategy until 2035, focusing on the economy, energy, infrastructure, high technology, and human capital, Report's correspondent in Turkmenistan informs referring to Tokayev's address at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State.
According to Tokayev, the current Concept for the Development of the Commonwealth was approved in 2007 and updated six years ago, while subsequent programs and documents are often not coordinated with each other.
"Therefore, I propose that the Executive Committee, together with the governments of our countries, begin developing the CIS Development Strategy until 2035. This is a medium-term perspective. It is important to focus on priorities of fundamental importance for our states - the economy, energy, infrastructure, high technology, and human capital," Tokayev said.
He also emphasized the importance of deepening economic cooperation and improving industrial and technological partnerships. According to him, CIS markets account for more than a quarter of Kazakhstan's foreign trade turnover, reaching around $40 billion last year and growing by 10% in the first seven months of this year.
Speaking on the role of the CIS amid a changing international environment, Tokayev noted that uncertainty and unpredictability are increasing, global economic ties are being restructured, and technological competition is intensifying.
"In such a situation, direct and trusting dialogue becomes critically important, allowing us to find agreed solutions taking into account the interests of each state. I am convinced that this explains the sustained relevance of the Commonwealth," he stressed.
The president of Kazakhstan also invited scientists, legal scholars, historians, and experts from CIS countries to participate in an international conference dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Alma-Ata Declaration, which will take place in November in Almaty under the auspices of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies.
