Tajikistan considers construction of nuclear power plant

Tajikistan is evaluating a proposal from Russia to construct a low-power nuclear power plant (NPP), Alexey Likhachev, the CEO of Russia’s Rosatom State Corporation, told Izvestia, Report informs.

"Our partners are reviewing our proposal for low-power solutions tailored to compact mining projects. They are particularly interested in facilities with a capacity of 40-50 megawatts. This marks the initial phase of negotiations," Likhachev stated.

The CEO further noted that Russia and Tajikistan have been collaborating on environmental initiatives for years.

"We have been carrying out a very large turnaround of joint work for several years in terms of environmental projects. This is the elimination of the legacy, uranium projects dating back to the Soviet Union, and the reclamation of mines and processing facilities," he said.
