The Swedish government is strengthening measures against illegal immigrants, Report informs via TASS.

It is estimated that the number of illegal immigrants in the country is between 107,000-185,000 people.

"I think there are grounds to believe that more than 100,000 people are living without permission in Sweden," said Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy Johan Forssell.

A special group has been created in the government to collect information about such individuals from various government departments whose employees must report information about illegal immigrants.

This approach has caused considerable criticism in society. Many even call this initiative the "denunciation law."

Forssell, in turn, notes that those living in the "shadow society," including children, are in a vulnerable position and may be subject to various types of threats and "exploitation." On the other hand, some of them could pose a threat to national security.

In a few weeks, the conclusion of the investigation regarding the "obligation to report" should be on the government's table.
