Slovakia imposes restrictions over spread of omicron strain

The Slovak government is imposing restrictions on the social life of people in order to keep down the spread of the omicron strain of high contagiousness in the country, Report says with reference to the Associated Press.

Attendance at weddings, discos, or other parties will be possible only after a booster dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 or two-dose revaccination. In addition, people will need, even with all these vaccinations, to additionally pass a PCR test, or present a certificate confirming a recent illness. The same temporary measures are introduced when visiting swimming pools or wellness centers.

All bars, restaurants, and other establishments will have to close at 22:00.

In total, about 5.5 million people live in Slovakia, more than 2.6 million people have been vaccinated, almost 1.3 million have been revaccinated. Despite a sharp increase in infections, the number of hospitalized patients in Slovakia is declining. So, the day before, the number of infected people in need of hospitalization decreased to 1,600 people, which is about 2,000 people less than at the beginning of December last year.

Since the outset of the pandemic, over 890,000 COVID-19 infections have been detected in Slovakia, 17,400 people have died.
