Around 10 European Parliament (EP) offices were sealed off in Strasbourg by EP security forces as part of a corruption investigation into the World Cup in Qatar, which led to the arrest of MEP Eva Kaili, and three others, Report informs via TASS.
The Strasbourg office of Italian MEP Pietro Bartolo's assistant was also sealed and closed.
In the case, which has already been called "Qatargate" by the media, MPs who influence the decisions of the European Parliament on the eve of the preparations for the World Cup in Qatar are suspected of receiving large sums of money or significant gifts, prosecutors said.
Meanwhile, European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas dismissed any links to the corruption scandal in his first public speech since the crisis began.
