PM of Lithuania: Necessary to extend restrictions on entry of Russian, Belarus citizens into country

The Lithuanian authorities are going to send a proposal to the Seimas of the republic to extend individual restrictions for Russians and Belarusians on entry into the republic, said Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Simonyte, Report informs referring to foreign media.

“Looking at the overall geopolitical context, it is difficult to imagine that the government will not come up with such a proposal. I think that there will be a need to extend the current law,” she said.

According to her, the government will have to make this proposal, since at the moment the restrictions are only planned until May 2024. Simonyte stressed that it is unlikely that by the time the restrictions expire, a positive change can be expected in Lithuania’s relations with Russia and Belarus.

According to the decision of the Lithuanian government, until May 3, 2024, the possibility of obtaining Lithuanian visas and residence permits will be limited for Russians and Belarusians. For Russian citizens there is also a ban on purchasing real estate in the country and, in general, entry is possible only in exceptional cases.
