The New York Police Department has stepped up security around the Turkish House.
According to Report's local bureau, the police officers have been dispatched to the Turkish House building to guard the facility round the clock.
In an interview with Report, a source from the police said that the employees were seconded to the building based on an appeal from the Turkish Consulate General.
After the incident, the New York Police Department is conducting a large-scale investigation in the area, the source said.
Based on the appeal of the Consulate General, work is underway to organize enhanced security of the building and establish a round-the-clock security post, the source noted adding that to make such a decision, it is necessary to identify other objects of national importance located nearby and reach certain agreements.
According to the source, this process will take some time.
On May 22, an unknown person attacked the Turkish House building in New York in the Manhattan area, where the Turkish Consulate General is located. The assailant broke the windows with a crowbar or a piece of rebar. After the Turkish side contacted the NYPD, a cordon was established around the building, and an investigation was launched.
The attack did not affect the operation of the polling station set up in the building.
Turkish House is a 36-storey, 171-meter tall skyscraper in Manhattan, just opposite the building of the UN headquarters. The building was commissioned in 2021. It was constructed by Türkiye's order and the project was developed by the international architectural bureau Perkins Eastman.
