Nigeria and Morocco to lay world's longest subsea gas pipeline

Nigeria and Morocco plan to build the world's longest subsea gas pipeline (the project of Nigeria Morocco Gas Pipeline, NMGP) extending to 5,660 km, said Tolu Ogunlesi, the special assistant on Digital/New Media, to Nigeria's President, Muhammadu Buhari, Report informs, citing TASS.

"Nigeria and Morocco are united to construct the world's longest subsea pipeline and second-longest pipeline. It will pump gas from Nigeria to Morocco and Europe via 11 countries of West Africa," the assistant said, as quoted by Maghreb Arab Press (MAP).

He also recalled that Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines (ONHYM) signed an agreement on partnership in June 2018.

On Monday, Timipre Marlin Sylva, Nigeria's Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, explained that NMGP would become a continuation of the West African gas pipeline, which already pumps gas from Nigeria to Ghana.

"We want to continue this gas pipeline to Morocco along the shore. We are currently at the stage of exploration and certainly at the stage of ensuring funding for this project, and many parties show interest in it," he said.
