The New Zealand Post has temporarily halted the majority of mail deliveries to the United States due to uncertainty surrounding a 15% tariff imposed by the administration of US President Donald Trump.
According to Report, citing international media, the restrictions took effect on August 21 and will remain in place until the tariffs come into effect on August 29.
The postal service clarified that only limited categories of correspondence—letters, passports, and legally important documents—will continue to be delivered to the US.
Similar measures have already been taken by postal services in India, Germany, France, Belgium, Austria, and Denmark following Washington’s decision to remove tax exemptions for small international shipments.
New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon noted that the implications of the tariffs remain unclear. He added that New Zealand Post, together with other international postal services, will engage with US authorities to address the situation.
