Motive behind burning Quran in Sweden was to curb NATO accession, says Turkish FM

The purpose of provocations in Sweden is to prevent this country from joining NATO, Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, said at a joint press conference with his Estonian counterpart Urmas Reinsalu in Tallinn, Report informs.

According to Cavusoglu, it would not be right to accuse someone specifically.

"The main issue is that terrorists are still active there. It does not matter who is behind the provocations. What is important is that Sweden should prevent similar provocations."

Cavusoglu said that Turkiye's position is quite concrete: "We will not approve the membership of Sweden and Finland in NATO until the requirements of the tripartite agreement are fulfilled.”
