New US Ambassador to Niger Kathleen FitzGibbon is due to arrive in Niamey by the end of the week, Report informs referring to AP.
An ambassador with deep knowledge and experience, such as Kathleen FitzGibbon, will undoubtedly be an asset in providing leadership to the mission and coordinating nationwide efforts on the ground, former US Special Envoy to the Sahel Peter Pham noted.
The United States hasn’t had an ambassador in the country for nearly two years. Some Sahel experts say this has left Washington with less access to key players and information.
