Lithuanian Seimas adopts resolution on inviting Ukraine to NATO at alliance’s summit in Vilnius

The NATO summit to be held in July in Vilnius should formally invite Ukraine to join the alliance as a full member, Report informs referring to TASS.

The Seimas (Parliament) of Lithuania has unanimously adopted the relevant resolution.

It is necessary to invite Ukraine to become a member of NATO, sign the accession protocols and start, when the appropriate conditions are created, the process of their ratification, reads the document.

According to Zygimantas Pavilionis, chairman of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs, Lithuania is against the preservation of gray areas in the security sphere.

“We must refute that Russia has the right to veto Ukraine’s accession to NATO. This will make the alliance stronger and strengthen our security,” he said. The politician also noted that the admission of Ukraine to NATO would be cheaper than the constant provision of military assistance.

The NATO summit will take place in Vilnius on July 11-12.
