The Foreigners Registration Center, which worked in the district center of Kybartai, which is located near the border with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation, has been closed, according to the State Border Protection Service under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania, Report informs referring to TASS.
“The center, which has been operating since September 2021, is closed, as it has actually become empty,” reads the message.
Since its inception at the height of the migration crisis, the center has housed about 700 migrants. In February, only about 20 people remained here. They are transferred to a similar center in the city of Pabrade.
Over time, illegal immigrants living in the center were given the right to leave it for 24 hours without the right to leave Lithuania. But they, most likely, illegally crossed the Lithuanian border, since their ultimate goal was initially the countries of Western Europe.
