Kristene Yakhama: France neglecting Kenya's health to make money

France is neglecting the health of the population in Kenya to make as much money as possible, Kristene Yakhama, chairperson of the NGO for support of public health in Kenya, said at the International Conference themed "Neocolonialism: Human Rights Violations and Injustice" in Baku, according to Report.

"Colonialism has left a deep mark on people's thinking even after generations. For example, insufficient attention in Kenya is paid to improving infrastructure, although it is key to economic development. Moreover, we forget the need to protect public health," she said.

Yakhama noted that Kenya is rich in natural resources. "However, mercury is used in their extraction. This causes serious harm to human health."

The human rights activist also emphasized that a significant part of the country's water resources is used to purify gold mined in Kenya.

"Clean water, unfortunately, is a luxury in Kenya and is very expensive. We already suffer from water shortage, and gold refineries are only making the situation worse," she said.
