Kazakhstan reports sharp growth in coronavirus infections

Kazakhstan has seen a 1.4-fold increase in coronavirus incidence over the past week, said Aizhan Esmagambetova, head of the Committee of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of the Kazakhstan Ministry of Health, Report informs, citing TASS.

"Over the past week, the incidence increased 1.4 times in the country, with 1,510 cases registered daily and 75% of the incidence falling on three regions - Almaty, Nur-Sultan, and Shymkent," she said on the air of a local TV channel.

According to her, the increase in infection cases is associated with the detected circulation of the omicron strain and the intensive internal migration of the population around the country during the New Year holidays.
