The Indian Navy intercepted a ship carrying 3.3 tonnes of drugs, one of the largest drug seizures in the country's history, Report informs via Indian media.

The operation was carried out in the Arabian Sea along the international maritime border jointly by the Indian Navy, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad and the Narcotics Control Bureau.

“The Indian Navy, in a coordinated operation with the Narcotics Control Bureau, intercepted a suspicious vessel carrying nearly 3,300 kilograms of contraband (3,089 kilograms of charas, 158 kilograms of methamphetamine and 25 kilograms of morphine),” an Indian Navy spokesman said.

He noted that the crew of the intercepted ship was detained and handed over to law enforcement agencies. The five people detained on the boat are believed to be citizens of Iran or Pakistan; no documents were found on them.
