India sees nearly 800 cases of omicron strain

Almost 800 cases of the omicron strain have been identified in India, with almost a third of those infected with the new strain in the country’s capital, Report informs referring to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India.

The omicron strain is found in 21 states and union territories. A total of 781 cases of infection were detected in the country, while 238 infected with the new strain were detected in Delhi. The ministry added that to date, 241 people have recovered from the number of those infected with the omicron strain in India.

The omicron strain, which differs from previous variants in a large number of new mutations, was identified in African countries in November. The first cases of the omicron strain were identified in India on December 2.
