The damage from the wildfire in Maui is close to $6 billion, Hawaii Gov. Josh Green said.
Report informs via foreign media that the governor said the fires were likely to be the largest natural disaster in the state’s history.
The death toll rose to 93 early Sunday, Maui County said in an update.
The number of deaths means that the fire, which devastated the town of Lahaina, is the deadliest wildfire in modern US history, surpassing the 2018 Camp Fire in California, which killed 85.
The wildfire erupted on the island of Maui on August 9. Due to strong winds, the fire quickly spread to the city of Lahaina, which completely burned down as a result.
