The funeral of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the Hamas Political Bureau who died in Tehran, took place at a cemetery in the city of Lusail, north of Doha, Qatar. The ceremony, attended by Qatari officials, royal family members, and Haniyeh's family, drew thousands of mourners.
Among the dignitaries present were Mohammad-Reza Aref, Iran's First Vice President, and Hakan Fidan, Türkiye's Foreign Minister. The large gathering of state officials, primarily from Islamic countries, prompted heightened security measures at the event.
Prior to the burial in Lusail, prayers were held over Haniyeh's coffin at the Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque in Doha. Prayers were also offered in his memory in countries such as Indonesia, Türkiye, Yemen, and Pakistan, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif joined the faithful in prayer.
