Germany suspends funding for Palestinian dev't projects

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation will suspend funding for its development projects in Palestine, while the German Foreign Ministry will continue to provide humanitarian support to the region, Report informs.

According to German Development Minister Svenja Schulze, the ministry will suspend funding for Palestinian projects during the inspection. Within its framework, Berlin will discuss with the Israeli side the combination of establishing peace in the region and security for Israel with projects for the development of Palestine.

Schulze emphasized that her ministry has approved about €125 million for 2023 and 2024 to finance projects related to the provision of water, education for the local population and job creation.

Prior to this, the European Commissioner for EU Enlargement and Neighborhood Olivér Várhelyi said that the EU was suspending all payments in favor of the Palestinians and was reviewing joint projects due to the escalation of the conflict with Israel.
