Germany sees over 80,400 new COVID cases

The number of confirmed new cases of coronavirus infection in Germany has increased by 80,430 over the past day, the record high for the entire pandemic, according to the Robert Koch Institute of Virology, subordinate to the Ministry of Health of the Federal Republic of Germany, Report informs referring to TASS.

The previous anti-record was set on November 25, when 75,961 cases of infection were detected per day. Since the beginning of the epidemic, the infection has been detected in 7,661,811 residents of Germany. As many as 384 COVID patients have died in the country over the past 24 hours. The total number of deaths for the entire time of the pandemic in Germany reached 114,735. In a country with a population of 83.2 million people, more than 6.2 million have recovered.

According to the preliminary results of a special assessment by the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, the annual death rate in Germany for the first time since 1946 exceeded 1 million people and amounted to 1,016,899.
