West's anti-Russian sanctions are effective and correct, and a unified European response to the Ukrainian conflict could surprise Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said.
Report informs citing the Magdeburger Volksstimme that, according to Scholz, the sanctions measures are an important means of pressure on the Russian Federation so that it stops the war.
"The country is cut off from world technological progress. The longer it goes on, the more damage will be done to Russia. For me, Germany's withdrawal from the Western alliance of supporters of Ukraine is out of the question," Scholz said.
According to him, Europe's 'strong and unified response' to this conflict "surprised Putin." The chancellor believes that Putin did not expect this.
