French bid farewell to ex-president Jacques Chirac - PHOTO

Today Paris is holding a farewell ceremony of former French President Jacques Chirac.

Report informs that French President Emmanuel Macron, his wife Brigitte Macron and Jacques Chirac's family attend the ceremony.

A military march and a French anthem were sounded at the ceremony held at Invalides memorial complex.

Following the ceremony, his coffin will be laid to rest in state at the Saint-Louis-des-Invalides cathedral at the Invalides memorial complex in central Paris for the French public to come and pay their last respects

Moreover, the Elysee Palace will host a commemorative event with the participation of current and former foreign leaders and heads of government.

Chirac will be buried with full military honours at the Montparnasse cemetery in Paris. The ceremony will be held only with the participation of family members.

Notably, today France has set a day of national mourning.
