France remains EU leader in counterfeit cigarette consumption

More than 40% of cigarettes consumed in France last year were sold on the black market, Report informs referring to the newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche.
According to the publication, at the end of 2023, France retained its position as the EU record holder for the number of counterfeit cigarettes consumed.
Last year, 43% of counterfeit cigarettes were smoked in the country, which led to losses of almost 7.3 billion euros, the newspaper writes, noting that in 2012 the figure was about 21%.
