Former Greek PM notes risks of active use of AI

The active use of AI technology has an additional negative impact on the environment, this aspect must be taken into account during the energy transition, former Greek Prime Minister Georgios Papandreou said at a panel discussion at the XII Global Baku Forum, Report informs.

He added that modern technologies bring both benefits and certain risks.

"It is necessary to carefully analyze the impact of AI. It consumes a huge amount of energy. Perhaps the new Chinese DeepSeek has reduced this level, but overall the impact remains negative. We all strive for a green future, so this aspect requires special attention," Papandreou noted.

He also emphasized that many perceive artificial intelligence not only as a tool for progress but also as a means of controlling people, which causes serious concerns.

"Unfortunately, AI is often viewed not as a technology capable of bringing benefits, but as a mechanism for controlling people. This is alarming," added the former Greek prime minister.
