The first four cases of the omicron strain COVID-19 have been identified in Slovenia, Report informs citing RIA Novosti that the head of the National Institute of Microbiology and Immunology, Miroslav Petrovets, said.
"During the latest testing, four analyzes revealed the omicron strain, which is already widespread in Europe," Petrovets said in a post on the government's Twitter account.
It is noted that all four cases were found in Ljubljana and central Slovenia; carriers of the strain were registered from November 29 to December 6.
"One of the infected, most likely, suffered COVID-19 last year," the specialist said, adding that "a difficult time lies ahead," and urged fellow citizens to be vaccinated.
