Finland waives COVID-19 quarantine for those infected

Several health districts in Finland, including the country's largest metropolitan area, have recommended lifting quarantine for coronavirus patients, Report informs, citing foreign media.

Isolation decisions under the Communicable Diseases Act as a primary measure to combat the coronavirus disease will be lifted. The isolation imposed by the infectious disease control authority has lost its effectiveness, the HUS Metropolitan Health District said in a statement.

The rejection of quarantine is justified by the contagiousness of the Omicron strain that leads to a large number of infections even before the first symptoms appear. Due to delays in testing and tracing chains of infection, the epidemiological basis for quarantine no longer exists.

The new rules are being introduced in the following health districts: Helsinki and Uusimaa HUS, Pirkanmaa, Central Finland, North Pohjanmaa, North Savo, and Turku.
