EU preparing package of new economic sanctions against Russia

The EU is preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia, including restrictions on individuals and economic measures aimed at the technological part of cooperation, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell told reporters following the UN Security Council ministerial meeting on Ukraine, Report informs citing TASS.

The EU Council is looking into a new package of sanctions against individuals, Borrell noted, adding that he can’t name them right now, and he is also looking into the imposition of economic sanctions aimed at the technological side of the relationship with Russia.

Borrell also suggested that the sanctions already adopted by the EU are very heavy and very effective. He promised that the EU would not weaken support for Ukraine and would provide it with political, military and diplomatic assistance.

Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the European Commission intends to propose to the EU Council a new package of sanctions against Russia in the coming days. Brussels expects EU leaders to try to reach a political compromise on the new sanctions on October 7 at an informal summit in Prague.
