Eight dead after heavy rainfall, landslide in Hunan province

Eight people were killed in Hunan after a mudslide flattened four houses in a village in the Xinhuang Dong autonomous county of Hunan province, according to Xinhua News Agency, Report informs via China Daily.

The landslide occurred at a village in Xinhuang Dong autonomous county due to heavy rainfall.

Other affected people have been transferred to safe locations and search and rescue efforts are under way, the report said.

A total of 184 townships in Hunan have reported heavy rainfall over the past two days, according to Hunan Provincial Meteorological Center.

The heavy rain is expected to continue batter central and northern parts of the province from Sunday to Tuesday.

Meteorological experts have reminded the regions to stay vigilant of mountain floods, geological disasters and floods at small rivers and cities.

The Xiangjiang River, dubbed the mother river of the province and a tributary of Yangtze River, should also stay alert to regional floods.
