The death toll from the capsizing of a boat on Lake Kariba has risen to 80, Zimbabwe's National Police Service said in a post on X, as quoted by Report.
"The death toll from the boat accident on Lake Kariba on August 11 has risen to 80 following the recovery of eight more bodies," the statement said.
Authorities had previously reported the recovery of 72 bodies. Search and rescue operations at the site are continuing, involving both professional rescuers and local boatmen.
On August 11, a ferry capsized on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe while carrying around 160 passengers, nearly twice its authorized capacity of 90. Authorities said the vessel's overloading and strong winds contributed to the accident.
