Death toll from floods in Nepal rises to 974

The number of people killed in the floods in Nepal has reached 974, according to the latest figures by Nepal police, Report, citing China Central Television (CCTV).

As of August 31, 20:00 local time (GMT+ 5:45), the official death toll stood at 974.

The disaster struck on the morning of August 26 in northern Nepal. Initial reports indicate that the flooding was triggered by a landslide near the China–Nepal border. A powerful surge of water, mud, and rock traveled more than 70 kilometers along the riverbed, destroying nearby settlements and submerging large areas.
