Central Asian countries to simplify int'l road transport, transfer FPF exchange to digital format

The transport ministers of Central Asian countries and China have agreed to simplify international road transport and transfer the mechanism for exchanging foreign permit forms (FPF) to an online format, Report informs referring to the press service of the Transport Ministry of Kazakhstan.

The move came following the second meeting of the heads of transport departments, which took place on May 16 in Astana.

During the meeting, the ministers discussed the current situation in the transport sector of the region and the world, as well as a wide range of issues related to economic, trade and humanitarian cooperation between China and the Central Asian countries.

"As part of the six-party meeting, the heads of transport departments emphasized the importance of developing a Program for Multilateral Cooperation in Transport between the Central Asian Countries and China. This program will ensure electronic document management and the ability to track the movement of goods online. The ministers confirmed their intention to simplify international road transport and transfer the FPF exchange process to a digital format. FPF is a document that allows carriers to carry out international cargo transportation," the ministry says.

To date, Kazakhstan is already exchanging FPF online with China and Uzbekistan. In the near future, digitalization will also cover exchanges with Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, which will significantly speed up international transportation procedures.

Following the meeting, the ministers signed memorandums of understanding on cooperation between transport departments, as well as in the field of digitalization of international road transport.

In addition, the parties expressed a common opinion on the need to simplify the procedures for crossing border points between the countries of Central Asia and China when carrying out road and rail transport.
