Cable car malfunction in Germany leaves 18 stranded before rescue

Eighteen people became trapped inside cable car gondolas in the German city of Saarbrücken due to a technical breakdown, Report informs.

A cable slipped off the mechanism, causing the ropeway to grind to a halt and leaving adults and children suspended in the air, German news outlet Spiegel noted, citing local fire department officials.

Rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene and initiated evacuation procedures. However, due to the significant height of several gondolas, specialized high-altitude rescue teams from the professional fire service were deployed to rappel down to the passengers on ropes.

After approximately an hour and a half, all 18 individuals were successfully brought to safety. According to rescuers, no injuries were recorded.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the technical malfunction.
