Britain is to ramp up production of artillery shells in a bid to replenish stockpiles after donating thousands of munitions to Ukraine, The Daily Telegraph said, Report informs.
The British Government has sent BAE Systems, the UK's biggest defense company, a letter of intent that orders are on the way. The signal of intent will give it the confidence to build new production lines and start to increase supplies.
The move is a prelude to an official order for more rounds from the Ministry of Defence, allowing the company time to prepare.
Precisely how many are made now, or how many will be made after the expansion, is a secret.
BAE Systems declined to comment. A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "The UK has enough weapon systems to defend our national security while fulfilling our commitments to Nato and Ukraine."
