Javid Zeynalli, press secretary of the Azerbaijan State Drama Theatre and a celebrated writer and playwright, became the latest guest speaker at the Report Media School, where he offered students an inspiring deep dive into the craft of storytelling.
During the engaging session, Zeynalli opened up about what it truly takes to create impactful literature. According to him, creativity is a three-fold path: it begins with talent, is fueled by voracious reading, and is polished through relentless effort and mastery of language.
“Great writing is born from great reading,” he said, emphasizing the importance of exploring the works of diverse authors. “In literature, there’s a principle: don’t dwell on what I said — focus on what you know. Write your own thoughts.”
He also reflected on the process of transforming memories into meaningful stories. Memories alone, he explained, are not yet literature — they must be artistically shaped, dressed in vivid language, and carefully structured to evolve into compelling narratives.
Zeynalli paid special attention to the challenges and beauty of children's literature, noting:
“Writing for children is one of the most difficult tasks. Children’s books carry layers of meaning, packed with messages and events.”
He also touched on the power of mythology, describing it as a deep well of values and inspiration — the very heart of many great books, films, and artworks throughout history.
Born in 1986 in Jalilabad, Javid Zeynalli earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Baku State University and completed his doctoral studies at the Azerbaijan University of Languages. In 2010, he was named "Best Young Writer of the Year" by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. He is a member of both the Union of Azerbaijani Writers and the Union of Theatre Workers, as well as a Presidential Scholar. With over six years of experience in the press, Zeynalli brings both artistic insight and real-world wisdom to aspiring storytellers.
